Negombo
Thermal baths and art come together in San Montano bay: Negombo
Negombo thermal water park is in Lacco Ameno, the municipality in the
north-west of Ischia, just a short distance from the town centre. It was
founded by the Duke of Camerini, who spotted a similarity between the bay
and the beautiful Negombo lagoon in Sri Lanka, hence its name.
The park is set within a green space covering more than nine hectares and
offers dozens of thermal water pools at different temperatures, a Turkish
bath, Kneipp pool, whirlpools, private beach, restaurants, massage centre,
and sun terrace with sun beds, parasols and loungers.
The park is terraced and its uppermost parts look out over the whole bay. The garden was designed by Ermanno Casasco, a famous Italian landscape architect, and contains Mediterranean plants alongside rarities from Australia, Japan, South Africa and Brazil. A number of contemporary artworks by Arnaldo Pomodoro, Giuseppe Maraniello, Lucio del Pezzo and Laura Panno are dotted around the park.
Negombo park also has a 1700-capacity arena that plays hosts to pop concerts in the summer. The Ipomea del Negombo plant show featuring rare tropical plants is held here in May.
